But when the phone rings, he jumps, stares, and leans to see what it says. Truth be told... the only reason he dares is because of the name. Guy. As cowardly as Allie was, if there was anything that could make him turn all the things he fears over on their heads, it would be someone reaching out to him.
Allie almost misses the call even, fumbling a bit with the phone until its on. He doesn't hold it up to his ear though, trying to talk over it rather than into it. He only nervously remembers the demonstration he was given a few weeks ago.))
...Guy....? ((A lot of him fears that it's not the friendly young man on the other side.))
((Sorry if it sounds like the line went dead for a bit there. Allie's absolutely in shock.
It wasn't like Guy hadn't been nice to him before, but he's just not used to this kind of treatment! "Choice".... Two people did that for him in his life - Holla had picked him to be her predecessor and Ilien picked him to be her friend. Though he didn't know that number was slightly higher, it wouldn't change how much it makes him nervous and shake. Or maybe it was excitement? He could never tell well. The implications of even a soft acquaintanceship... Well, no, in Allie's mind, that was good as friendship as any.
Conscious of time, Allie manages a gasp just before Guy can voice any wonderment.)) S...sorry. I... ((Basically: You're killing him here.))
D-did you just want me to talk then? I don't mind that...
[For a second, Guy thinks the phone's stopped working. He even takes it away from his ear to double-checked if the batteries have died. When it's clear that no, it's not the phone's fault, he wonders if he should say something when Allie does the job for him.]
'Course I do. [Says it as easy as anything.] Actually, where are you?
Ah... ((He's probably hiding somewhere in a corner.)) Near my class, but... Well, it's so easy to get lost here. ((He could be suggesting anything, careful not to make assumptions.))
Uh.. sure! ((Science!!! Not that he considers this science... but never mind. Range is something he knows even without understanding the phones well. There's a light hum.))
The furthest point is all the way upstairs... I could go up there, and then you would be able to move freely on the ground level? ((...)) Er, unless you had something else in mind?
[ It was on purpose, his abrupt evasion of the courtyard - as if staying indoors will allow his thoughts to remain firm, compact than diffused and boisterous. But, Akira had decided to divert from his routine avoidance, leaning against the wall near the stairway, hesitant to approach the tree, the nearby bench that was notably empty, momentarily neglected. He felt oddly unsettled, recalling the words exchanged under the pouring rain, the tumultuous thunder overhead. But, in lieu of relief derived from the ghost's absence, there was disappointment. Perhaps seeing his transitory conversation partner again would make things seem less disconcerting - despite the fissures against his perception, the irresponsible and simplistic views on death. Even then, it was foolish to expect anything more than this.
Akira didn't trust the latest addition to the courtyard. Red was an abrasive color, endeavoring on retrieving unwilling attention. Still, he approached them from a distance, the deluge of bugs apparent from where he stood, and the equally obtrusive petals and stamens of the flowers. Vegetation was scarce back home, but he was certain stuff like this wasn't something that would be specified as "normal". The academy's doing then? As he made a move to depart from the courtyard, Akira noticed a butterfly hovering near his face at a close proximity, seemingly intent on bestowing his nose with its tangible presence. He held nothing against bugs. To him, the outdoors were their vicinity. But, he felt somewhat hassled, distracted.
Moving his hand in a swift motion to parry the butterfly and its harmless intentions, he moved to the side, nearly bumping into someone in the process. Rather than an automatic apology, Akira turned towards the person instead, staring at their face until he could discern their facial features, distinct and legible. Taking a step away, he appeared more surprised than guilty. He recognized them. In fact, he had talked to them before - and it wasn't a bad conversation. ]
... My bad. [ Briefly scrutinizing his surroundings, he realized that the butterfly was gone now. What the heck. ]
How long has it been like this? [ He said, residual annoyance at first, before leveling out into something more relaxed. ] I haven't been out here in awhile.
((Allie felt roughly the same about the addition tot he courtyard, but that was no surprise. Allie disliked change. The slightest, unexpected shift in his environment was enough to make his heart beat a little too quickly and set him on edge; perhaps to his benefit, but it never made him feel well. So when these terrible flowers appeared, Allie had set his sights on anything but a visit to the awful courtyard, and even a passing by the windows to the courtyard had him hastening his pace like a cat lacking eagerness for a petting. Except Allie was generally worried the flowers were brought about by a prospected dip in his sanity.
So why, on the third day, would he bother come out here even? ...Frankly, he had no idea, but as the people around him seemed to also be losing themselves, he started to fear whether they were all to go mad but him... as he felt that no real change had occurred in him - he was as nervous as he had always been. So, based on a fear for those around him (people he was slowly beginning to care about too much,) he approached the red flowers, asking himself: how could it be destroyed? And would that stop what's happening? Of course he had other questions.
He was aware of Akira's approach instinctively. Hunters had to have good peripheral vision, and his was notably good. But he was shy and embarrassed easily, and nervously plucked at the string of his bow across his chest, hoping that he would be left alone or wasn't causing a disturbance. He would have left, if not for the fact that Allie had become absorbed in the Shayten-like oddity of the endlessly curling petals. When Akira approached, he froze up, tensed, and although worried at first, was just glad it wasn't even more than a bump. His eyes open one after the other, squinting uneasily at Akira from the side.)) Sorry... ((and glances away, expecting Akira to be on his way again. ...But he doesn't go, and instead, continues the interaction. Allie could never resist the surprise that followed each time someone spared more than a few words for him.)) Uh....
It happened on the 20th, ((he mutterer, frowning, eyes on the flower.)) I hadn't seen them until the afternoon, though.
